I'm still not clear on whether you're doing this in a program or interactive.  And, by "the log" do you mean you are using QShell's ability to log its output to a file?  Or are you generating a log in another way?

The QShell envvar has a directive that you can specify to tell it to replace the data vs. append the data.

If you do want to do it yourself, is there any reason not to just delete the log when you're done with it?  (Or move it to an archive location?)
