Rob:

Agree with the process, I've never seen this happen before except when the
system had really old groups and needed a respin of the LIC put on first.
In this case it had all groups/cumulative as of July 2021 on the system
prior to putting this one on.

Weird. I always get a message that an IPL is required to put the TR on
and it acts like the INSPTF aborts. I do a
CHGIPLA STRPRTWTR(*NO) STRRSTD(*YES)
PWRDWNSYS DELAY(120) RESTART(*YES *FULL) IPLSRC(B)
Followed by another INSPTF, which almost always tells me that no PTF's
were installed. Do whatever else I need to, then another PWRDWNSYS again.
Might be an extra IPL, but it seems to work and I can't argue with that.

Rob:

That’s exactly what was done, everything ordered at one time in one
download. It failed spectacularly. What we are learning is on this one
anyway, the cumulative/groups need to go on ahead of the TR, at least a
V7R4.

I'm rather curious as to why you would put on a TR and not the latest
cume that came out with it?
SI76780 says in it's cover letter that it is part of C1238740.
A few other sources also confirm it's in that cume.
I order all groups, the cume and any ptf's listed at the 'recommended'
site by scrolling down until I get to the drop down for 'Select Topic' at
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-i-support-recommended-fixes
All of these are ordered at the same time and appear in the *.bin files
I downloaded.

Thanks Jack, I did look at those yesterday as well, and my guess is
that’s as close as you’ll get to what I’m looking for. The problem is,
the PTFs IBM had me install to fix the customers problem citing these were
required are not in those lists, and not that I could find as pre/co
requisites for any of them.

I’ll open a case and undoubtedly they will point me to a document, one
that can’t seem to be found with any of the search engines or IBMs internal
search.

I don't see any listing of prep or prereq PTFs for the new TRs on
any of
the IBM sites. Does anyone know where in the h*** IBM hides them?

I know for instance that MF66517 / SI76780 are required to be
permanently
applied to V7R4 before the TR is applied. (One of my customers
found
that
out the hard way) The problem is I cannot find any documentation that
lists
those requirements.

I can find Special Instructions, but that's not a prerequisite list.

Anyone else found them?
