Nope. LAN isn't necessarily transporting IP. :-) To the LAN side, this box talks 802.2 DLC, which is "SNA frames on Ethernet" (or Token Ring). Remember APPC *CTLDs LINKTYPE(*LAN) to be created with the MAC address of a remote machine? No IP involved.
