Can't now - I deleted everything from /tmp and my problem went away.

I did previously have a nightly job that cleaned this up. We stopped it
to collect so logs that were being written there, then we changed the logs
to go to a specific log directory and forgot to restart the nightly clean
up for /tmp

I will however keep your suggestion and try it if the situation reoccurs.
