We don't use the IBM i externally... at least not public facing.

My host table entries look like this - where TBFPWR7 is the system name.

Internet Host
Address Name

::1 IPV6-LOOPBACK
IPV6-LOCALHOST
127.0.0.1 LOOPBACK
LOCALHOST
192.168.1.254 TBFPWR7.TBF.LOCAL
TBFPWR7

If I ping TBFPWR7 from the green screen I get:
Verifying connection to host system TBFPWR7.TBF.LOCAL at address
192.168.1.254.
PING reply 1 from 192.168.1.254 took 0 ms. 256 bytes. TTL 64.

I created an RPGLE service pgm procedure to "move files" from an IFS location to this server. I issue the MKDIR command in that procedure prior to using MOVE command. The procedure accepts the from and two arguments:

Example: Ifs_MoveFileToServer('/myIFSdirecotry/myfiles/*.pdf':'/Public/mypdfs');

Somewhere I read that .local should be avoided because it has special meaning to some equipment.
So, if your external is Dekko.com using something like corp.dekko.com for internal use may be better.
