"It Depends."

Does the data compress a lot?

Does the VTL have DeDuplication? If so what kind and how does it work?

Are the tapes generations of the same data so dedupication can be effective or are these vastly different so they will not?

How many of these tapes?

You see it really does depend! If there are 100 of them all simply generations of the same data you might smash it all into 50 TB or less or you might end up needing 500TB! We cannot tell.

VTL sizing - how much VTL DASD is needed for a full LTO7 cartridge (15.0tb compressed / 6.0 tb uncompressed).
I have many archived LT07 cartridges that will need to be migrated (DUPTAP or DUPMEDBRM).
VTL sizing tool only accounts for current going forward.
Does not account for archived data.
