Hello Rob and Patrik,--
I'm working on this old machine because this was our old ERP system, and the former IT tech did not extract data from it when we changed the system, 5 years ago. So, it has been running without maintenance or even looking at it for the past 5 years. Now, people raised their hands (5 years after any tech that ever touched this OS retired) and said: "Hey! We need the data; we can't lose any of it!". So, I'm the 28 years old tech working with a 23 years old system...
Would a service like idevcloud be able to host a machine if I send them QIC2GB tapes of a full system save?
Unit #1 (the active one) is 9402-400 and the one I'm trying to install is 9402-200 I believe (could not find the tag where the 9402-XXX is written so I searched google)
The "risky" operation was that on my 1st system I had a failed DPY on a disk (and did not know how to repair it, found it later...) and used a disk from system 2 to try to change that disk. So, I erased the disk with the 1st system, trying to use it as a non-configured unit. Then, when I put the formatted disk back on the 2nd unit, that's when I got the 2nd SRC (918BB981). If I disconnect that disk, I get back to B1954502.
When I try to boot from tape or OS CD, the SRC change to
When I talk about the link, it's between an IO2677M and the as400 (http://ioconnections.com/productdetail.aspx?id=72)
I assume data is corrupted because when I do DSPPFM Library/File TORCD 327400 and goes down, it crashes. I receive a message "Cancel reply received for message CPF5030" and when I tried to extract these records through ODBC, the files sending this message were excluded when I set ERRLVL *NOMAX.
I hope you guys can enlighten me, as I feel I'm going in a dark path right now...!
Thank you

Objet : Re: Installing OS/400
Hello Eric,

We bought a while ago, as a backup unit, an AS400, same model as the one we have. (type 9402).
9402-what? Just curious.
It stops on SRC B1954502.

=> Something with IPL.
I tried some (risky) manipulations
Can you please elaborate? What did you do?
I tried to look online for these SRC but there is no clear indications on what those mean.
Yes, IBM is not so open when it comes to proper documentation of systems innards.
I had full system save of my 1st AS400on a QIC2gb, tried to do a manual IPL type D on it (2nd unit) (since it seems that's the way to boot on an external device) but nothing happens.
Nothing happens? No access to the tape drive? No status codes on the LCD?
I think the link works between those 2 because when I do IPL, and I
look at the Twinax Monitor Mode of my 2677m, I see
Link between? What exactly did you set up? How are the machines connected together? How's the twinax terminal connected? What's a 2677?
My plan is to install a fresh copy on the 2nd unit, and let it alive
for consultation purpose, since the 1st one had some problems
(corrupted data right now, only 90% of the data is available)
Normally you can use any newer machine and OS, copy the appropriate libraries over and start using the software as usual. I'm leaving out minor stuff like "user profiles start the application immediately on signon", Library list extensions, and the like.

Please elaborate on what you mean with corrupted data. What happened?
I found someone who did work with AS400 around me, but I felt scammed when I received an hour rate bill for asking for a quote, So I'm not feeling confident working with them.
You can find a windows guy on every corner for cheap but it's not so easy to find an AS/400 expert who still knows about specialities with V3 (somewhen in the early 1990's I think). And who is willing to take the risk that the system's falling apart while trying to repair it.
