The manufacturers are driving this not IBM.
I also think if you look at current pricing you won't be nearly as upset in
the future as you were during the last go-around. I agree, it was too
expensive before, but you might find things have changed.

Unless they stop charging the exorbitant prices for SSD maintenance after
the 3 year warranty runs out that pretty much eliminates Power Systems from
those shops who like to hold on to their hardware for an extended period.
We're big into using IBM for maintenance but even we can't afford their SSD
maintenance charges and self maintain those. Don't try to push third party
maintenance because all they do is take IBM's charges and knock off a
percentage. So x% off of infinity is still infinity.
If you want spinning disks on your new system you'd better order quick.

While no surprise, as of today there are no more spinning drives available
from IBM, or if there are there are damn few of them.
