Appears to be a Vary(2) char.

Try a Varchar(6)

Where the first two bytes are the length.

If it works it would show something like this in hex:

X'0006123456'


No, if it was VARCHAR(6) the hex representation would be as
follows:

x'0006F1F2F3F4F5F6'
