Risk of outage? Possibly.
I used to have a little more confidence that "concurrent" stuff could be done, well, concurrently. However I got burned on a recent firmware upgrade.
All three Power systems at the same level.
I performed the upgrade on two Power systems concurrently, with no problems.
Did the last system and had to perform an unscheduled IPL. Two lpars of VIOS, 1 of AIX and 5 of IBM i. Main production system.
But when it comes to the temp to perm firmware copy I always do that in restrictive state. But I only do that once a quarter and it's all scheduled the previous year.

Subject: RE: Perm Apply of Firmware....
I just applied VL910_122 FW910.20 MH01799 firware.
I did a power down of the server to apply the "disruptive" firmware.
However, I'm not sure if they applied.
This is my first firmware apply on P9 and 7063-CR1.
Did the process change for applying "disruptive" firmware?
Looks like you are like me, just with a slightly different version on your *PERM install. We need to follow the directions given by Rob Berendt below to apply to *PERM:
On your HMC:
Pick Systems Management. Pick your system (NOT your lpar).
Actions, Updates, Change licensed internal code, for the current release.
"Select advanced features"
Accept - Copy Temporary to Permanent
My question here, is: Will Accepting/Copying Temporary to Permanent require a cold reboot? Will it just update, and leave the system running? I'd prefer to not be remoted in at 1:00 am Sunday morning, but it beats bringing down a production system in the middle of the day....
