I don't think an iSeries can run 7.3. However if you are using that as a
generic term, have you ensured that your hardware can support 7.3? One
good resource is

Keep in mind that even though a particular model may support a version of
the hardware some hardware within may not. For example, we used to have a
model supported on the release we wanted to go to however we would have
had to replace all the disks and cards within that machine. We got a new
model instead. Expand the Hardware and Software for 7.3 at the following:
