I have been through multiple OS upgrades using Mimix. And when rNext
comes out I plan on comfortably sailing through that with Q-EDD.
Basic OS upgrade technique I use is:
Try a copy of the application on a sandbox machine with the new release.
Upgrade Target DR box earlier in the week, like Tuesday, Wednesday or
Thursday.
Upgrade Source box on Saturday.
No problems.
Doing the target first gets rid of those pesky TGTRLS issues.
Really, it gets to be a no brainer.
Yeah, HA/DR is not going to be a magic bullet for application upgrades.
But we've stepped through the migrations on the sandbox machine enough
times we know how long the outage window will be.
