If all you want to do is return a results set, why bother with embedded the
SQL into RPG?

SQL Stored procs make a nice interface for external (JDBC/ODBC) clients.

Create Variable is very slow. Hope you are not calling this much.

Why use an SQL procedure instead of using an SQL RPG service program?

Since the invocation rules say it is supported then someone should report
it.

getting an error when I compile an SQL procedure. Error is on the
CREATE
VARIABLE statement.
SQL0104 30 11 Position 9 Token VARIABLE was not valid. Valid
tokens: VIEW ALIAS TABLE SCHEMA.

but I can compile and run the same statement in an SQLRPGLE program.

why this error? How to create a variable in an SQL procedure? I am
at
V7R2.

I have a feeling that IBM did not allow for CREATE VARIABLE in a
compound statement.

By the way, I say that because I can execute the following in
iNav

Run SQL Scripts.

create variable QGPL.COMPNO char(5);
create variable QGPL.SEQCDE char(6);

But I get that same error if I try to execute the following in
iNav Run SQL Scripts even though I can execute other BEGIN...END
combinations in iNav without problems.

begin
create variable QGPL.COMPNO char(5);
create variable QGPL.SEQCDE char(6);
end;

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
