- for user reports, you could consolidate naming and presenting your
original file enriched by all extensions without any problem.
- if it's a vendors database:
-- you could consolidate the extensions and present the vendors file with
your extensions in a view. For updates, you could use instead triggers.
- if it's not a vendors file:
-- step one creating a view layer for all new applications (with
consolidated files without extensions), similar to step 1
-- drop all RLA access, replaced by a data access layer "emulating" the RLA
operations
-- normalize your database
-- provide the needed views.
