IBM has a massive amount of work to do on that new interface, at this point
I consider it nearly unusable. Did they bother to ask any real uses what is
good about the new interface? If they did I'd be shocked since it is at best
confusing and at worst does not really work that well.

I remember when the usability lab in Rochester used to call folks in for
studies. Having sat through a few of them ( I think Larry Bolhuis and I
were the first ones outside of IBMrs to get the external Integrated Server
to work after diagnosing a problem with the Ethernet switch they had
previously configured(wrongly)). IBM learned a great deal about what will
and will not work in those sessions, but funding cuts all but eliminated the
program.

It's sad they just don't seem to get it. The new look is not more efficient
nor easier, it's just new and copies the look and feel of other vendors.
Stick to what works and people like.

I saw that when it came out, and I think this is a mistake on IBM's side.
Every time I present an HMC session, I ask who is using which interface,
and about 90% are using the classic interface. I would imagine most people
will be slow to upgrade past V8R8.6

HMC V8 R8.6.0 will be the last release to support the 'Classic' login.

The e-mail below is from an external source. Please do not open attachments
or click links from an unknown or suspicious origin.

from Enhanced view, select the partition and from the task menu below,
select "Manage"
</snip>
That is no longer the case. Your version of HMC probably matches this out
of date documentation
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1012228

I agree on the classic view. I just used it this morning to bang out adding
another nwsd. I'm just battling through the enhanced view with IBM as I
suspect that IBM will some day do away with 'classic' and want the enhanced
fixed prior to that.

Plea: Open up tickets and get this fixed.

You can select the view at login. There is a drop down upon login that
defaults to "Last Log In". Most people probably use the classic due to this
setting, but you can force it to use the Enhanced view by selecting it here.

Rob - from Enhanced view, select the partition and from the task menu below,
select "Manage". The properties window will open and from there you can
select the Processor/Memory tabs and you can dynamically adjust the assigned
resources by either entering a value or dragging the bar.

I agree with Larry, this view has issues and I prefer the classic view
myself.

Version 8. :-) In 8.8.4 it went from Enhanced to Enhanced plus.
Enhanced went away.

But you can select 'classic' and stay with that. I have.

The enhanced view is 'pretty' and all guisish and all but has many issues.
I cannot make it work for me.

I DID ONCE find the way to DLPAR stuff in and out. I do not remember how
that worked. But it is in there. It was very convoluted. (IMHO)

What release did "enhanced view" appear in?

Are you using the "Classic" or the "Enhanced" view?

Using the "Enhanced" view on the newer versions of the HMC how does
one
dynamically lpar? I do not want to schedule it, I want to do it now.
Besides, the scheduler is for physical hardware, not virtual stuff.
