I think I didn't explain clearly enough the issues for this. I need to create a WSCST object for a new remote-IP printer that ALWAYS prints from Drawer 3. It might be a technically different drawer I'm thinking, but they're calling it that, and after we get this to work consistently I can change the drawer.

After attaching the created WSCST object to a remote CRTOUTQ or to a CRTDEVPRT, then I can do overrides are set the printer file specifically for the printer.

The third party software that will print these HCFAs, as they're called, is opaque. We cannot implement an override to the printer file or change the attribute on the printer file. Their assumption is a printer dedicated only to these forms, and they do not provide a way to make a drawer selection when they print this claim.

Therefore I must set this thing up for users at a different location (new for us), who need to print from out third party application to a printer at their location, but to a specific Drawer 3 (as they call it).

But the printer is an "HP Laser Jet P2050 Series PCL 6" printer.
Per instructions from the IBM web page, at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1010133, I retrieved the WSCST source code using, best closest guess for manufacturer type model (HP4),
RTVWSCST DEVTYPE(*TRANSFORM) MFRTYPMDL(*HP4) SRCFILE(QGPL/QTXTSRC) and member HP4.

Compiles okay to QGPL, but I need to tweak this thing so it ALWAYS pulls from the specific drawer.

In the retrieved source I have four drawer specifications:

:DWRSLT
DRAWER=PAPER
DATA ='1B266C3248'X.
:DWRSLT
DRAWER=ENVELOPE
DATA ='1B266C3368314F'X.
:DWRSLT
DRAWER=DRAWER1
DATA ='1B266C3148'X.
:DWRSLT
DRAWER=DRAWER2
DATA ='1B266C3448'X.

I suspect DRAWER2 for this. If it turns out to be technically a DRAWER3, the docs say I can add an entry for an additional drawer. (True?)

If I want to ONLY direct output to ONLY Drawer 2, will it work to remove the other drawer specs?

(Arggh. Why can't they standardize printer specs!? Why don't big commercial users demand it? What a waste!)

CRTDEVPRT
DEVCLS(*LAN) TYPE(*IPDS)

Note that DEVCLS(*LAN) TYPE(*IPDS) requires both
1) the chargeable PSF for IBM i license program (5770ss1 option 36,37,or 38)
2) An IPDS capable printer. Normally from IBM/Ricoh/Lexmark. HP doesn't
offer IPDS but some 3rd parties offer IPDS chips for HPs.

Whoops (on my part)!

We definitely have the IPDS PSF installed.

I managed to pick the only printer in the building with an IPDS chip in
it to look at as an example.
Most of them (really, this time!) are

DEVCLS *LAN
TYPE 3812
MODEL 1
LANATTACH *IP
PORT 9100
ATTACH *DIRECT
ONLINE *YES

WSCST aren't used for IPDS printers.

My IPDS printer has

USRDFNOBJ HP4350
*LIBL
*PSFCFG

My non-IPDS printers have

MFRTYPMDL *WSCST
...
WSCST IT5500
QGPL
USRDFNOBJ *NONE
*NONE
USRDTATFM *NONE
SYSDRVPGM *HPPJLDRV

For ASCII printers, Buck's pointing out the right path.

Create a WSCST, looking up the escape code needed for your printer, and add
a :DWRSLT parm if not there.

Then you can simply specify DRAWER(3) on the printer file or via OVRPRTF.

So, thanks for the correction! I hate putting wrong stuff out :-(
