Hi All,

I have used the control panel to set function 2 to be "M" for manual.

I was expecting to see function 3 become available once that was completed.

It is not showing function 3 when I use the increment or deincrement buttons to scroll though the available functions.

Question.....the control panel does have a keyslot so is this telling me I need the keystick even though it allowed me to change the function 2 to be set to manual?

Then you may be down to the following:

Read this first to determine your console type:
Using the console service functions (65+21) https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_71/rzajr/rzajrfunctions6521.htm?lang=en-us

And if "it's" really hit the fan there's this:
https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_71/rzal2/rzal2usepower.htm?lang=en-us
Using the Power button

To me this sounds exactly what you're looking for, right?

Thank you Both,

First note I am not a hardware person please forgive my lack of knowledge.

Yes TCP/IP is down but IBMi 710 Express on v7r1 is up and running.

So I cannot enter the command.

STRSST
8. Work with service tools user IDs and Devices 3. Select console

Select one of the following:
Console type . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4
1. Twinaxial
2. Operations console(Direct)
3. Operations console(LAN)
4. Hardware management console(HMC)
Current state of console tag . . . . . . . . 4

To provide you this information.

Not sure what steps to perform to re-start TCP/IP without a console.

So I was hoping that the people before either included it in the system start up program or they had change the IPL STRTCP parameter to *YES so it would be done IPL is completed.

Rob - we may need a little more info from the OP.

The subject contains "TCP/IP down" but the body of the message says ".
. . TCP/IP
needs to be ended and restarted" so I'm not clear if TCP/IP is currently up or not.

If TCP/IP is currently ended AND no console is available, then he's kind of SOL for entering commands, is he not? That could be where the front panel buttons questions are coming from.

How do you know you do not have a system console? For the love of God

Follow the following instructions and tell me what you have for
"Current state of console tag".

No, you do NOT need to set it to manual to power it off.
do the following:
PWRDWNSYS DELAY(120) RESTART(*YES) IPLSRC(B) DSPJOBLOG OUTPUT(*PRINT)
SIGNOFF *LIST After two minutes it will start the power off, then
power itself on again.

Repeat after me.
This is not an AS/400.
It should be a once in a system's lifetime thing that I ever hit the
buttons on the front of the box. Ever. Even if I've pulled the plug,
I should not have to use the buttons to start it from scratch.

Hi All,

First note I am not a hardware person.

We have a IBMi 720 Express on v7r1 that TCP/IP needs to be ended and
restarted.

The problem is there is no system console setup.

What are the steps I should follow to power it off manually and IPL?

I know I need to set it to manual so it will allow the power off.

Any know gotchas here?

Also what are the requirements for the PC to be used as the System
Console when we set one up?

Please forgive me for my lack of knowledge and thanks ahead of time
for helping out.
