Larry,
<3) Think about your zoning, carefully. It's pretty cool to be able to allow one machine access to one library a second to the other library and a third to both libraries at once. They simply appear as libraries under the Fiber IOA.
We have two LPARs, each with a 5735, connected via SAN switch to a 3573 lib with 4 LTO5 HH fiber drives.
Originally, this was configured, using only 1 port, each LPAR could see only 2 drives.
The original config had open zone which allowed all
the ports to see each other and this was not a problem
when only using one port on each IOPless IOA
The zoning setup to have one specific port can see one other specific port like the following
example:
SYSA IOPA Port 1 sees only Port5 TAPE1
SYSA IOPA Port 2 sees only Port6 TAPE2
SYSB IOPB Port1 sees only Port7 TAPE3
SYSB IOPB Port 2 sees only Port8 TAPE4
We then decided to use the 2nd port of each 5735 and change the zoning on the SAN switch.
Since you have shown that 2 drives on a port should
be OK then change the zonning so it overlaps:
SYSA IOPA Port1 sees both PORT5 TAPE1 and PORT6 TAPE2
SYSA IOPA Port2 sees both PORT7 TAPE3 and PORT8 TAPE4
SYSB IOPB Port1 sees both PORT5 TAPE1 and Port6 TAPE2
SYSB IOPB Port2 sees both PORT7 TAPE3 and Port8 TAPE4
then each system will see all 4 drives ... 2 drives per port of the IOA
you could leave all 4 drives with control paths ... or have only
TAPE1 and TAPE3 as the control path drives ... one per port minimum.
Also, if I have to DLPAR the 5735 to another LPAR which has no 5735, everything moves automatically.
Upon completion of the DLPAR, LPAR C now has TAPMLB01 with 4 drives.
What I like about this config is that all 4 drives can be used at once on any LPAR, nothing to vary on/off.

Subject: Re: Multiple tape libraries into a single fiber port?
Actually it works fine. A few things to consider (don't ask me how I know.)
1) If the same library has different types of sleds (e.g. LTO4 AND LTO5) they must be configured as TWO libraries one for each type of drive.
2) If more than one drive in the same library and you do NOT partition the library but still configure both drives as control path then do NOT connect them to the same partition at the same time, that is bad. Do not cross the streams.
3) Think about your zoning, carefully. It's pretty cool to be able to allow one machine access to one library a second to the other library and a third to both libraries at once. They simply appear as libraries under the Fiber IOA.

As i type this I'm thinking this is not possible but let me try.
Can you have multiple tape libraries into a single port? Gut says yes,
brain says no.
I have one tape library, with multiple drives, shared by multiple lpars of
IBM i, across two power 8's. VIOS lpar on one rack hosts it to all of
it's lpars of IBM i and has the physical fiber tape card. Similar
situation for the other rack.
Both connect to a SAN switch that supports all four drives.
Here's the catch, the fibers do not connect to the library, they connect
to each of the drives but they still show up as
WRKMLBSTS
Device/
Resource Status
TAPGRT01 ACTIVE
TAP01 OPERATIONAL
TAP02 OPERATIONAL
TAP04 OPERATIONAL
TAP03 ACTIVE
So, if I tried to control multiple libraries from one fiber port,
and you connect directly to the drives,
how would it know to put the drives on the other library on to a different
library?
