In the mid-1970s I was looking at migrating from a Sys/3, Mod 6. DEC asked me to consider their product. They asked me for a simple RPG source and a few data records. I provided a one-up mailing label program and some fabricated name & address records. Then we scheduled a demo day in Waltham, Mass. The agenda was to key in the source, compile it, and run it with the data to print some labels. It was an end-to-end proof of concept to demonstrate that DEC could migrate existing RPG to their box.

It did not go well, even though they had rehearsed it thoroughly.

I know for a fact - a friend of mine worked there - that DEC had a group of

An RPG compiler.
