Links with the '-912' seem consistently only to function with that specific www suffix; I do not recall ever successfully having tested a link from which that suffix was removed, such that the www.ibm.com was always unable to redirect to a functional address [whereby the -912 was implicitly added]. I seem to recall there was one other similarly intransigent www-suffix, but mostly whatever the suffix being trimmed to leave just the www will be functional, and on rare occasions will be seen to have redirected to something other [a backup server?] than what is typically seen; e.g. something typically seen as www-01 might be seen as www-06 when requesting to visit a www.ibm.com, whereas an attempt explicitly to visit the www-01 address will fail, thus dropping the suffix proves to be useful.
