Is there any method using FTP as the transmission mode to have control of
individual records being sent?
I would like to be able to do something like this:
create empty file on remote server
read record from my DB file on the i
put record to the remote file
if no error, update transmitted date/time in my DB record
repeat until all done
close file
FTP doesn't work this way. FTP doesn't individually acknowledge receipt
of individual records [1].
If you are really limited to FTP then your best bet is to do your put as
usual, then do a get and compare the two files. If they match, you have
a 100% guarantee that the far side got it all. If you don't have a
match, then you are in an ambiguous situation where you can't easily
tell if the far side didn't get it all, or if the far side didn't send
it all back to you. In this case, you're better off re-sending the
whole exchange.
