Yikes, Serious questions:
1) Correct way: Load and apply them with the normal commands using the save
files
2) Perm Apply?: You don't "have to" perm apply them but it's a good idea.
Saves space and will speed things up
3) ALL PTFS with one IPL: Depending on the level of code your system is at
to start with (make sure you use the latest V7R1 respin of the LIC) you may
or may not need more than one IPL. If you use the latest respin of LIC it
should be good to go.
4) PHP: You'll need 5733-SC1 (all parts) and it's a good to get
Cryptographic Service provider, Unicode, OmniFind, and transform services
too. (all free)
5) Extra DVDs: Load them all. Takes up next to no space and you never know
if you'll need them.

Subject: Upgrade to 7.1 TR10 from 5.4
Hi All,
I have not done much with PTF's for a bazillion years so please forgive my
naivety in asking.
I am following Pete Massiello's upgrade doc. It is very helpful.
I can only go the 7.1 because of the box we are on.
Following the APAR doc II 14482, I have the PTF's loaded that are missing
and are in Save file only.
Can these be applied during the day or do I need to apply when everyone is
off?
What is the correct way of applying them?
I am IPL'ing this weekend. There are also many PTF's at Temporarily
applied.
Do they need to be Perm before I do the upgrade?
I want all PTF's ready so the IPL will finish them all.
Are there any obscure products I should also install during the upgrade?
I want to play with PHP when done. I have PASE and all Java selected.
There are DVD's that have F_MULTI_NLV.
They are Zend Community Server Edition for I (5639-ZC1), DB2 Web Query
(5733-WQX) and Open Source Solutions (5733-OPS) All of these are loaded into
the image catalog.
Thanks for all guidance!!
