If the message handling program is set up properly it will send the remote
data queue entries to the other partitions.

Sequence of events:
Message from UPS that commercial power has dropped is sent to message queue
determined by system value
Message queue program fires off
Send data queue entries to each of the other partitions
Take whatever action is needed on this partition : IE orderly
shutdown, etc.
Send notification messages
Communicate with HMC to start script to run in xx number of minutes
to power off the system.

Data Queue handlers on the other partitions:
Receive data queue entry
Send notification messages (if needed)
Take whatever action is needed on that partition, IE orderly
shutdown.

Clearly you test with everything except the power down commands that are
commented out.

But that doesn't really prove anything other than that the power handling
program is engaged.
I need to know if the message queue on all partitions on the server will get
the message when a power outage occurs.

All you need to do in that case is send the appropriate message to the
message queue that is monitored by the UPS message handling program.
You
can do that from the command line.

Yes, that's what I meant, but didn't say.
Still, I'd like to find out if all partitions get the message queue
alerted without doing that. Should be documented somewhere, no?
I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks.

Don't pull the plug on the server. Pull the plug on the UPS. In our
case the UPS a big someb... that has a 'breaker box' going into it

that
to test it.
