A posting on the Easy400 group last night said:

"A new PTF (SI55030) is in test at the moment & will be released soon to
resolve the issue. APAR SE60391 refers to the issue."

This was not an IBMer post, it was a user.

What is the latest on this PTF, probably should be deleted if not applied.
Has IBM marked it defective or superseded with new PTF?

I'm planning an IPL for his weekend with PTF apply, R&D LPAR.

Per HelpSystems, IBM has now stated PTF 5770TC1-SI54738 is defective.

Got an email from HelpSystems on this. They are working directly with
IBM to see if it's a defective PTF or whether ESEND has an issue.

Stay tuned.

Jeff,

I already searched PTF cover letters at
http://www-912.ibm.com/a_dir/as4ptf.nsf/as4ptfhome
for SI54738. This would have found any PTF cover letters that listed
this PTF as Superseded. For example:
PTF#: SI44334 - IBM TCP/IP Connectivity Utilities for i
Licensed Program: 5770TC1
APAR Fixed: View details for APAR SE48980
Release: 7.1
Cumulative Level: C2115710
Superseded by: View fix details for PTF SI54738

Funny thing is, searching that site for SI54738 doesn't list SI54738!
I eventually found the cover letter for SI54738, and it's header does
not yet list a supersede.

Brad,

There's a fixing PTF?

This isn't the SI51172 from a while back that was in error and fixed
by SI52478.
How do I find if there's a fixing PTF for SI54738? Open a PMR?

The error is in the PTF. ESEND obviously uses the QtmmSendMail API
which
was broken by a recent PTF, but is fixed by another one not
included in
the
CUME.

That is an assumption of course. I remember when we were talking
with
IBM
the PTF did cause the problem, but IBM also found some other ISV (I
don't
think it was Help Systems) did have some invalid parameter lengths
in
the
call to the QtmmSendMail API.

Have you tried applying the fix PTF?

I contacted HelpSystems (providers of ESEND) support. At their
suggestion
I did the following:

1) I first set QSECOFR user profile to PUBLIC *EXCLUDE (which is
what
it
used to be) and left it there.

2) I removed PTF 5770-TC1 SI54738, did ENDMSF and
ENDTCPSVR(*SMTP), followed by STRMSF and STRTCPSVR(*SMTP). The
email went out fine.

3) I then reapplied the PTF, did ENDMSF and ENDTCPSVR(*SMTP),
followed
by
STRMSF and STRTCPSVR(*SMTP). The email errored out with the
error I originally reported.

4) To be sure, I removed the PTF again, did ENDMSF and
ENDTCPSVR(*SMTP),
followed by STRMSF and STRTCPSVR(*SMTP). The email again went
out
fine.

So it definitely looks like this PTF is what caused the error.
Now
the
question: is the PTF in error or is ESEND not doing something
right?

Awaiting their response.

Apparently there are more than one issues that happen, and it
isn't
always
the error described in the posting above.

I also had one customer on V7R1 who applied the fix and DIDNT
have
any

QtmmSendMail,
and not MAILTOOL Plus which bypasses it).

Go figure. :)

Rob,

And yes, it's SI54738. Got it right in the subject but not

I took the liberty of changing SF54738 to SI54738. That

First, look at Charles suggestion.
Then, WRKLNK '/tmp', use option 8 and ensure that
Restricted rename and unlink . . . . . : No
If yes, use 13=Change attribute to change it to No.
If that doesn't sound familiar, search the archives. I
thought
IBM
was
thru changing this at every IPL to suit their whim.
