While it is possible that it will work OK, it depends on what you're doing. If you're calling another program that uses the same file the file cursor might get moved, which the caller might not expect. This would produce your classic "unexpected results". I've always used it via an override; I think it's too dangerous to allow it as a default.

Share *YES is better from a performance standpoint, but if the application is NOT coded for a shared open, then it MUST remain *NO, is this correct?
