I would question as to why there were 2.6 million spool files.
- Are they really printing that many with SAVE(*YES)?
- Do the jobs really need to generate so many spool files, "just in case",
which never print?
- Why are they spooling up joblogs? I changed the system value QLOGOUTPUT
to *PND. No spooled joblogs anymore, unless someone creates a job
description with a "Job log output" other than *SYSVAL. If I really need
to spool it up to send to IBM or some such thing I do DSPJOBLOG JOB(...)
OUTPUT(*PRINT).
- Instead of CLROUTQ would it be safer to use an api to delete all spool
files over x days old? We do. No, we are not going to modify all printer
files to put an EXPDATE in them. But that's an option if you want to be
slightly more selective.
