I think the risk of NOT having the latest group on clearly outweighs the
risk of a bad ptf coming in on that group.
Look at it this way, let's say the last cume came out with a ptf that was
a bit wonky. IBM comes out with a correcting PTF. IBM is not going to
reissue a new cume just for that. They will continue shipping the wonky
ptf out on the cume until the next cume cycle. That correcting PTF will,
more than likely, be on a group ptf. Maybe even the Hiper group.
Another example, let's say that IBM finds a serious error with the http
server that only gets activated when daylight savings time ends. Again,
they're not going to change the cume cycle. They are going to put it on a
group ptf. Maybe the http group.
You know, if I've purchased some "sundry items" from the family planning
section of my local pharmacy and I walk in there later and see a recall
notice sign and they'll offer me free replacements that, while it may be
true that the new ones could be defective too, you can bet that I am going
to take them up on that offer. Of course, I'll have to rush them through
quality assurance. :-)
