Was interested in hearing how people find using CR with the AS/400.

It was here before me. We have a classic hodge-podge database that grew
from S/3 cards into an almost orderly collection of loosely related
tables. This makes it difficult to turn end users loose on the
database, so we in IT end up creating the reports and putting them on
the Crystal Server for the rest of the organisation to access.

How do you make the connection is there any issues there.

Connect from the server to IBM i via ODBC. No issues.

Do you use Logical views on the AS/400 or run SQL Queries. Assuming for
dynamic needs from user, wants latest data.

SQL queries. If performance becomes an issue, a new index usually fixes
that.

Do you make all formatting and data massaging on the AS/400 or do you use
the formula features of CR.

CR formulas.

I heard that fastest method for CR is to use their parameters for
filtering, is this so?

Sometimes.
