is often going to be perceived as inferior.

A Windows world? We've recently had some success at migrating three new customers off Windows / .Net / MS SQL Server platforms, in favor of an IBM i based Web Portal. And we look forward to migrating more.

by browser behavior across platforms (Chrome, FF, IE, Safari) ...

It looks like several of the classes at the COMMON conference will address your concern. The more familiar you become with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, the fewer problem you'll have. This issue may also be addressed by a number of popular UI frameworks.

It also looks like the conference will address the "advanced" UI, as well. There's also a video at our Web site that demonstrates an "advanced" browser UI.
