"Restart type"

*IPLA
The value specified on the Change IPL Attributes (CHGIPLA)
command is used. To determine the current setting for this
value, use the Display IPL Attributes (DSPIPLA) command.

*SYS
The operating system is restarted. The hardware will only be
restarted when required by the system.

*FULL
All portions of the system, including the hardware, are
restarted.

I use *FULL when I IPL once a quarter. Unless I do a RESTART(*NO) because
I have to IPL the whole rack to apply firmware or do hardware upgrades.
Better to experience any potential outages when you have the weekend
versus any unplanned IPL's in between your planned IPLs. That, and I
wonder if certain MF* ptf's need the full restart to get really far down
into some IOA's and what not.
