The administrator at the customer site seems to have figured it out.
I see (looking at it now that it's working) that the initial server and
the child server(s) are in different subsystems (we put them under
different JOBDs to allow for that), so that would explain why the
initial server launched, but the verification server (which runs under
the child server JOBD) crashed before it even got to any of our code.
Still, I did want to understand what was going on. Thanks.
