The last time I looked, There was some limits on the number of slots that
could be assigned to each library. Pretty sure 50/50 split left/right
magazine is fine. I had a client that wanted to split it like 17 slots and 5
slots ( I don't remember the exact split ) and the library wouldn't let him.
IBM Support confirmed that the drive wasn't that flexible.

Opened a pmr and IBM confirmed it for me. Yes, I can swap out the full
height drive for two half height drives on the 3573-L2U and each drive
could then be hooked up to separate lpar's. Then I do some configuration
on the library itself to assign the various magazine slots to the various
drives.

We will be changing our 3573-L2U. We have a proposal from our BP to
replace the one 8043 full height Ultrium 3 LVD SCSI drive with two 8046
half height Ultrium 3 LVD SCSI drives.
We want to attach each drive to a different lpar. We are under the
impression that one drive will get the right magazine and the other will
get the left magazine.

So, we're correct in thinking that we can run a cable from a 571A card,
associated with a 2844 card, on one lpar to one drive and a different 571A

card associated with a different 2844 card on a different lpar to the
other drive. And both can be running at the same time. Right? These
will be configured as media libraries and the backup software will be
BRMS.
