If you have a DVD-RAM drive sure...

Unless something has changed in the last few years, the i only
supports DVD-RAM not DVD-RW you'd find in a PC. And writing to
DVD-RAM on the i is very, very slow compare to DVD-RW on a PC
(primarily because the i automatically verifies what it writes)

500MB isn't all that large anymore....I'd consider saving to a save
file, using DTACPR(*MEDIUM) and FTP'ing...

Otherwise, considering FTP'ing the file to your PC and burning it to a DVD.

An LTO2 tape is way overkill for 500MB and like Rob suggests may not
get there alive.

Rob,

Do you mean to say that DVDs can be reinitialized, cleared, reused, etc on
the System i just like tape?

If so, I had no idea.  I thought inits were one and done . . .

DVD is more universal.
SAVLIB LIB(MYLIB) DEV(OPT01).  Quite easily done.

No but to Rob's point, it would fit on a CD/DVD......

Define "large".  You could use the DVD...
