this is one way I do it, using parms
for the part of the line that changes.
I have another method for actual "source"
data members, requires an extra step,
send back a reply if you want the longer version

UPDATE
      DATALIB1/UXX0AC
SET
      UXX30FTP = SUBSTR(UXX30FTP,1,25)||&MONTH||&YEAR
WHERE
     SUBSTR(UXX30FTP,1,3) = 'PUT'
