I scanned this thread and may have missed this suggestion but you should use GetiPTF that Bryan Deitz has written as an open source application. Just order the groups and/or cume by FTP and then use the information that IBM sends to submit GetiPTF to batch. It will create the image catalog, download the images, verify and mount it. Then all you have to do is run the install. Drop dead simple.
