The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.

I worked in a bank thirty years ago that used 9 track tape. Only

It's like every generation has to reinvent things. As if none of this
stuff was sorted out in mainframe glasshouses decades ago.
Every tape is initialised prior to first use with the next available
sequential number. Every tape gets written up in a log book showing
date first initialised, dates of any re-initialisation, date of
disposal, etc. Every save or copy to tape is logged in a save log
(either manually or via software). The system error log is reviewed
frequently and tapes showing excessive read/write errors are discarded.
That gives the ability to track:
a) how old the tape is
b) how often it's been used
c) what's on it
d) read/write errors
Open the doors to the kiddies and standards go out the window. Anyway,
this is either preaching to the choir or falling on deaf ears so I'm
done.

Simon Coulter.
