2844 is not a RAID card. It is a combined function IOP card. On new
hardware the big push is for IOPless. If you look in WRKHDWRSC *STG you
should see your 2844 and then any cards it controls embedded underneath
it. For example
Resource Type-model Status Text
CMB03 2844-001 Operational Storage Controller
DC09 571A-001 Operational Storage Controller
TAPMLB01 3573-020 Not detected Tape Library

5709 is a RAID enablement card.

I reread your email. You're using cartridge tapes. How passe'. I think
they are going the way of the dodo bird. I think your's may stay around
for the foreseeable future though. Anything smaller gets whacked.

I am going to assume that your tape drive is imbedded on the same imbedded
controller as the disk drives thus making a simple shift to a different
bus, not so simple. I don't know how much a lto3 or 4 tape drive would
cost you. I also don't know what the additional maintenance would be
since it would now be "an external tape drive" and that seems to make IBM
giddy. Maybe that's just because it will be it's own serial number when
you call in for maintenance.
