Hi, Scott:

Many Linux systems use the RedHat Package Mananger (RPM) that uses .rpm files (RedHat Linux, Debian, and several other distros use RPMs), to manage software "packages" -- the really nice thing about RPMs is that when you create your RPM package you can designate that this package "depends on" or "requires" another RPM package, such as one containing "libstdc" ... then, when a user downloads and installs your RPM package, RPM can optionally download and install any "pre-requisite" packages, automatically.

I believe IBM's AIX, as of version 4, has support for RPMs. Perhaps there is an AIX version of the RedHat Package Manager for AIX that could be downloaded and installed and used under PASE? It looks like there is a version of RPM for AIX on the "Bull Open Software archive for AIX" web site at: http://www.bullfreeware.com/ under AIX 4.3.3 and AIX 5.1 ...

Using RPMs might make life easier for everyone venturing into the PASE waters ...

All the best,

Mark S .Waterbury

Correct.

(Perhaps Scott could have included any dependencies, e.g. libstdc, in
his tarball for 7Zip ...?)

That's an excellent idea. (It seems obvious now that you mention it.)

My only problem is that I've changed my PASE environment so much over the years that I don't know which parts are stock parts and which are my modifications. That makes it hard to tell which dependencies I'd need to include. :(

If someone could help me in this area, I'd appreciate it.
