Hi, Pete:

Exactly what is the feature code of this model 825 machine? (DSPSYSVAL
QPRCFEAT).

It is possible that this particular machine does not support the use of
"processor multitasking" and if you change that system value to "1", the
system will automatically change it back to "0" again on the next IPL.

See page 45 and pages 565-566 in this "System Builder" Redbook:

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpapers/pdfs/redp5052.pdf

I think model 825 uses only Power4 processors, so it appears that
QPRCMLTTSK will do you "no good" ... :-o

All the best,

I'm considering setting QPRCMLTTSK to '1' on an 825 (V540) for improved
Java performance. Does anyone have any horror stories about it? Heavy
batch processing occurs on this system each night, and there's still a
significant single threaded interactive/batch mix during the day. Since
this setting is inherited from the controlling partition on 7xx and 8xx
machines, I can't test it on the dev LPAR first.

Thanks for those reference. It appears you are correct. Our 825 has
processor feature 7418, and apparently the 825 in general supports
neither HMT or SMT.
