Numbers for the x3850 M3 (8 core, 4 socket) aren't out yet.

As far as I can tell the x3850 M3 isn't available yet - not even listed at IBM's x-series server site.

The x3850 M2 is ages old - from 2007 or 2008.


I don't know when they came out, but IBM is selling them, today.

I'm kind of getting the feeling that having a serious discussion about Power 7 vs. Intel servers is not possible. I pointed out that the 4-socket model 750 offers 55% more throughput than the newest 8-socket Intel server reported (by Sun). That seems relevant to me, especially when you factor in DBMS license fees on 8-socket servers. The DBMS cost is based on socket count. The model 750 appears to be a better price/performance value - at least to me.
