What does a Payware Transact transaction look like?

Then have Verifhone fix their software. Yes, you can test if you can
ping this service, if the socket for this service is open, but that
doesn't really help you - for example, the port might be open because
the listener is still running, but spawned workers may not actually do
anything (e.G. disk full, job queue on hold, can't contact database,
etc. pp.).

You can of course implement any of these workarounds, but the only
real fix is to have Payware Transact's vendor to fix their software.
