We have multiple partitions on our systems. Each partition has it's own
communications and disk controller cards outside the main card controller,
so that each partition can be repaired independently of the other
partitions. Even then we had an issue with the ethernet card in one
partition. The 5767 LAN adapter had an issue with the firmware and would
fail randomly. We had to shut down all 4 partitions to reassign a LAN card
in the CEC to this partition to replace the 5767. until the firmware could
be corrected.

We have a model 570 system running multiple lpars. As of now there is DISK
IO card for one of the Lpars in the main card enclosure hence when we had
to
change the cache battery for the lpar the whole system had to come down
along with all lpars
Trying to avoid the same situation again where are the other places on the
as400 system which we can look to see where we have some technology that is
assigned to a single partition that if there were an issue on that
partition
it would be responsible for an outage on some other partition.
