I'd bet Simon's on the money...

However, just wanted to note that if it were me, I'd be concerned
about other jobs being affected by the apparent differences in CCSID
handling between the schedulers.

You should double check, but it sounds like SYSAUTO was working in the
system's regular CCSID, whereas AUTOMATOR is running under some other
CCSID (37 perhaps?).

Most likely cause is a change in CCSID of the job.

You should never use the short form operator if you need it to work in
all CCSID environments. Similar with CL concatenation operators--
always use *CAT, *BCAT, *TCAT. Change your SQL to use concat() instead.
