IBM's implementation of SMTP does not support authentication. You can add
your System i's IP address to the list of IPs allowed to relay through
Exchange - that helps.

You can still have issues with Exchange IMF (Intelligent Mail Filter)
though. If any mail from the i contains words that IMF blocks or considers
spammy, then your i emails could be classified as junk. I am not related
to this company, but I have had great luck with IMFTune from
http://www.windeveloper.com. Relatively inexpensive and let's you tweak
IMF filtering til the cows come home. One option that might interest you
is the option to whitelist all email from a specific IP (your i).
