Another thing to consider is that the data may be totally laid out
different. For example, one database may be all inclusive and not 3rd
normal form. Another may be third normal form and may not have the VIEW
needed to join the various tables together.

However, if you feel that the IBM product is going to:
1 - Have a better initial cost of ownership because it will significantly
reduce development time.
2 - Have a better long term cost of ownership because maintenance fees
will be less than bandaiding a homegrown.

I don't believe that maintenance has been done on our JDBC use for years.
It just keeps going.
