Hi everyone,

I have a tape drive that won't initialize some tapes. It is a replacement for an old drive which failed, replaced by IBM. It initializes tapes that were previously initialized on the old drive, but it won't initialize any new tapes that we have bought. The old vs. new tapes all appear to be the same: SLR QIC2GB. I'm not sure if I have a tape drive problem or have just gotten incredibly unlucky and received two batches of defective tapes in a row. Has anyone experieced similar problems? Can anyone suggest what I might do to determine the cause of the problem?

if you want to understand why that is, there are many good books on
the design of operating systems. please pass them along to redmond
when you're done reading them :)
