Scott, Simon,

I apologise for my ignorance.

I just created my own DSPF with from the IBM example, which I should have done before posting. I did not realise it would be very easy to do.

I had been asked to verify that it is not possible to control the entering of non displayable characters by the DSPF and stumbled on CHECK(VNE). Obviously, this will not help me.

Simon already explained what "the name" refers to. Since
CHECK(VNE) is for checking that you've keyed a valid OS/400
object name, "the name"
refers to the object name you're keying in.

My question for you is this: What are you trying to
accomplish? Is this just an exercise in understanding all of
the possible DDS options?
Or do you have some sort of business problem that you're
trying to solve? If so, what?

I have to admit that I find the IBM information very hard to
understand. Which is why I made this post. I am understanding, from
the example, that AB and VNE are combined so that a blank is then
acceptable in a zone with CHECK(VNE). I still do not
understand what
is meant by "the name" in the help text. What name?
