Back to the point. We are currently using BCD's Catapult to split and
email
/ pdf files from the iSeries. What are some of the alternatives?
Catapult
has served us well but does have issues from time to time. I would love
to
hear about alternatives especially ones recommended by actual users.

We use two products: Gumbo (http://www.gumbo.com/), both their Report
Manager and Spoolware products, and S4i (
http://www.s4isystems.com/products/s4iexpress.asp).

Both will burst and email reports. Both have competent help desks.

Gumbo is good and we would never have run with another product except for
the fact that all email addresses are maintained in the iSeries directory
entry. It's possible to pull email addresses off of the print themselves,
but it's a roll-your-own solution and my boss wanted something that others
could maintain.

S4iExpress has more functionality out of the box. My only ding on it is
that if you're as paranoid as I am about having security lockdown on your
objects, it can be very difficult to impossible to maintain *PUBLIC
*EXCLUDE on everything. Security within the product is OK, but by default
it will store the files in databases and libraries with *PUBLIC *USE, and
it only takes a little creativity to go poking around in areas you don't
have access to under their own interface. They weren't helpful at all in
changing some of the underlying programs to run as *OWNER so that we could
exclude users from having access to the files themselves. We currently
have to run with 'security via obscurity', the only package on our system
to give us this problem. Its data library is one of only 5 or six non-IBM
libraries on our system with *PUBLIC *USE on it.
