From: Colin WilliamsAmen to that! Eight years ago, we were getting pressure from customers to convert our training delivery system (which included a green-screen simulator) from our original PC-DOS code (Pascal, actually) to a Windows GUI. We skipped a step and went right to a browser-based model, complete with hidden Ajax routines passing XML from our Java-based server to Javascript/CSS that took care of the display functions. It was one of the smartest things we ever did. Overnight, we were able to expand our customer base worldwide. When we roll out a new course, we only need to update one site to make it available everywhere.
IMHO, the browser of today can do everything a native GUI could do and
more...we just need to make more use of the amazing tools we have already
been given!
