My first AS/400 job (correct name back then), was with a small local
brokerage firm. They used software by a company called ABC (Advanced
Brokerage Concepts) if I remember correctly.

Back in the ecommerce and ebusiness days there were a number of US and
foreign firms that ran their stock business on the i - front end/back
end, back end only, front end only, etc. They were mostly small to
mid-size so I always made an assumption that they had been acquired at
some point. It's long enough ago I can't remember the details - some of
them were very good but the company names and those involved escapes
me....

I must assume that there are some still out there....as you have
mentioned....

Sorry to bring this back up, but I opened a Scottrade account last month
and finally got around to going down to the local office today to sign
some papers and transfer in some stock from another account.

Imagine my surprise when I see the broker pull up a nice green screen
interactive session on his PC to set this up. I said "Is that an
iSeries?" and of course he had no idea what I was talking about. When I
finally got him to realize that I was talking about the system he was
connected to and not the box on his desk he clicked "About" and said
"You're right, it says Reflections for IBM."

So maybe the iSeries IS ideal for trading stocks...

Don't be too hard on him, He quotes IBM as saying its not ideal for
trading stocks.

Well,

The turkey that did that article for Fox is Adam Shapiro. He's out of
Fox
News in NYC. You can reach him at (212) 301-3000 I think and I would
suggest calling him up and leaving a little voicemail telling him just
how
good of a box it is and how much he has to learn about technology... :)
